About the song:

"Let's Make Up Some Joy"  began as an invitation to AV from mixing engineer and producer Brandon Unis, to "let's get together and try to write a song," way back in 2017.  Brandon had a drum groove ready to go, and AV made up some chords, a verse, and a chorus on the spot-- and then they had to stop because a big summer thunderstorm came, and they were worried it would mess with the power and recording equipment.

The unfinished song then sat in AV's "song idea" bin for the next 7 years, while things like the pandemic and a releasing a n acoustic album ("Everybody Matters") preoccupied her.

But, when she began touring again after the pandemic, in the spring of 2022, AV ended up last minutely hiring French drummer Elie Mercier on recommendation from a friend.   Mercier, a producer himself, was keen for AV to get into the studio with upbeat, funky material to follow after her acoustic album, and the 2 began co-producing tracks as they toured 6 countries and performed nearly 70 concerts together in less than 1 year.

In early 2024 AV dug into her "bin" of unreleased songs, knowing Mercier would like the track she had began long before, with Unis-- and he did.  The 2 set about arranging and recording the parts for it on their spring 2024 tour-- which meant they ended up recording the drums in France; the bass and guitar in a farmhouse in Germany (played by AV's long time tour partner, Kaley Kinjo); the vocals were recorded in AV's neighborhood in Canada; the synth keys were recorded in a different farmhouse in Germany; and they edited all the parts together in an apartment in Vienna, Austria.

The song's lyrics are about the struggle of the underclass to get by, so often feeling downtrodden and outcast-- but the triumphant choruses are about finding strength and inspiration from fellow strugglers, and becoming empowered and uplifted, taking ownership of creativity and resilience, and perpetuating AV's motto of "rockwhachagot."
