My approach to teaching piano is to enable you to understand music in a "big picture" way, so that you are empowered to apply what you learn to ALL songs, instead of just learning a song one at a time.  I guarantee I can enable any person to play a basic blues tune in at least one key by the end of your first lesson, and by the 2nd lesson be able to understand how to apply those chords to other songs.

What you'll need:

1.  A good internet connection that allows for a video call, and a camera so that I can see your hands and keyboard.
2. A keyboard of some sort-- it does not have to be a full 88 key keyboard, or an expensive variety.  It WOULD be good to have the keys be the standard size, however.
3. Also sent in an email in advance: very short explanation of your training-- if any-- none is fine-- in the areas of music theory, ear training, choir singing, or backup vocal singing.

My related experience in this area:

I am a graduate of Grant MacEwan's Music Performance Program, at which I received a scholarship in academics, and besides my performance skills and extensive experience I have solid knowledge and background in music theory and ear training. I also studied classical music for a few years at the King's University College, where I studied piano with a world-renowned classical pianist, Joachim Segger.

Having said all that, the diploma I received at Grant MacEwan was with a major in VOCAL performance, not piano, and I am not at the level of what one would call "session piano player" or someone who makes their primary living playing piano-- I am a person who proficiently accompanies myself onstage on the piano, and writes using the piano-- and who even gets hired once in a blue moon to record on piano for other people, but I would not say that I am someone qualified to teach piano or keyboards at the high level of peers of mine that I could highly and enthusiastically recommend.

I am, however, very qualified and confident to teach beginner piano, to anyone of any age, and to help make sense of the instrument and music theory in the most basic of ways so as to empower someone to play simple songs that they know, and to explore and improvise, all within a lesson or 2.  My goal with teaching beginner piano is to open up the exciting and endlessly creative world of playing a chordal instrument that opens up once the simple patterns of basic harmony are explained.
